On quiet evenings following action-packed days, watch a DVD as a family while your dogs nestle at your feet. Cook up a feast using local ingredients in the well-equipped kitchen, then enjoy family meals in the airy dining area. Outside, there's a small, enclosed garden with a tidy lawn and a bench for sharing holiday moments (and cake). Explore the village of Beadnell on foot, perhaps popping into an eatery for a morning coffee or half a pint before heading to the beach. Beadnell Bay is a stunning sandy cove where you can enjoy rock pooling, paddling or just stretching out for an afternoon doze. Seahouses (2 miles) is a popular market town with a pretty harbour. From here, why not take a day trip on a boat to the rocky Farne Islands, famous for their seals and seabirds. For a good dose of history, follow the Northumberland Coastal Path 5 miles north to the magnificent Bamburgh Castle. If you have any Harry Potter fans in your group, Alnwick (14 miles) is must – the medieval castle here was used as a set for the famous films.
